La prima pietra per la costruzione del Castello di Moncalieri fu posata nel 1277. Le carte dicono che fu per volontà di Tommaso III di Savoia, detto Tommasino.
La costruzione che si ammira attualmente risale alla seconda metà del ‘400, quando l’edificio fu scelto come dimora dalla duchessa Jolanda di Valois, la quale nel 1475 stipulò il trattato con duca di Borgogna, Carlo il Temerario, e il duca di Milano, Galeazzo Maria Sforza.
L’importante complesso attualmente appartiene a diverse istituzioni pubbliche. Gli spazi esterni e i diversi saloni, quindi la maggior parte dell’intera struttura del castello, sono sede del Reggimento Piemonte-Liguria dei Carabinieri.
The first stone for the construction of the Moncalieri Castle was laid in 1277. The documents say that it was by will of Thomas III of Savoy, known as Tommasino.
The construction that can be admired today dates back to the second half of the 15th century, when the building was chosen as a residence by the Duchess Jolanda of Valois, who in 1475 signed the treaty with the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, and the Duke of Milan, Galeazzo Maria Sforza.
The important complex currently belongs to various public institutions. The external spaces and the various halls, therefore the majority of the entire structure of the castle, are home to the Piedmont-Liguria Regiment of the Carabinieri.
