Da oltre venticinque anni la Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo è impegnata a favore dell’arte e della cultura contemporanee. Tra le prime fondazioni private aperte in Italia, è un osservatorio sulle tendenze artistiche e i linguaggi culturali del presente. Nata a Torino il 6 aprile 1995, per volontà di Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, sua Presidente, la Fondazione è un’istituzione no profit che rispecchia gli indirizzi di un nuovo mecenatismo, basato sulla responsabilità assunta in prima persona e sulla condivisione di passioni, saperi e risorse individuali.
La Fondazione ha due sedi. La sede torinese, inaugurata nel 2002, è un’architettura museale costruita ex novo in un quartiere che testimonia il passato industriale della città e le sue trasformazioni. Progettata dall’architetto Claudio Silvestrin, sorge di fronte a un giardino pubblico. Qui, nel 2021, è nato il Bosco delle artiste, uno spazio dedicato alla cittadinanza e alle attività educative e sociali dell’istituzione, promosso nell’ambito del progetto weTree e sostenuto dalla Città di Torino. Palazzo Re Rebaudengo, a Guarene, è una residenza settecentesca, tutelata dalla Soprintendenza dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali. È uno degli edifici storici di questo piccolo borgo immerso fra le colline del Roero, territorio che con le Langhe e il Monferrato è riconosciuto come patrimonio dell’Unesco. Nel 2019, poco distante dal Palazzo, la Fondazione ha aperto al pubblico il Parco d’arte della Collina di San Licerio. Le installazioni di artisti di tutto il mondo sono collocate tra un bosco selvatico e i filari di una giovane vigna.
La centralità dell’artista, eredità di un collezionismo sensibile e partecipe, è alla base della prima missione statutaria della Fondazione e si concretizza nel sostegno alle nuove generazioni artistiche, attraverso la promozione, la realizzazione di mostre e la produzione di opere. La diffusione della conoscenza dell’arte e la formazione di un pubblico ampio, coinvolto e partecipe costituiscono la seconda missione istituzionale.
Since over two decades, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo has pursued its commitment to contemporary art and culture. Among the first private foundations opened in Italy, it can be described as an observatory on the artistic trends and cultural languages of our time, across the fields of art, music, dance, literature and design. Launched in Turin on April 1995, on the initiative of its President, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the Foundation is a nonprofit institution that reflects a new conception of patronage, based on principles of individual responsibility and the sharing of personal passion, knowledge and resources.
The Foundation has two locations. The Turin branch, inaugurated in 2002, is an architecture built from scratch in a neighborhood that bears witness to the city’s industrial past and its transformations. Designed by architect Claudio Silvestrin, it stands in front of a public garden. Here, in 2021, the Bosco delle artiste was born, a space dedicated to citizenship and the educational and social activities of the institution, promoted as part of the weTree project and supported by the City of Turin. Palazzo Re Rebaudengo, in Guarene, is an eighteenth-century residence, protected by the Superintendency of Cultural and Environmental Heritage. It is one of the historic buildings of this small village nestled in the Roero hills, an area which, together with Langhe and Monferrato, is recognized as a UNESCO heritage site. In 2019, not far from the Palace, the Foundation opened the Collina di San Licerio art park to the public. The installations by artists from all over the world are placed between a wild forest and the rows of a young vineyard.
Preserving the central role of the artist, as part of a culture of collecting based on sensibility and personal involvement, is a mission spelt out in the Foundation’s statute, and takes the form of support to new generations of artists through the promotion and creation of exhibitions, and the production of works. The second mission of the Foundation centers on the visitor, who is both the target and protagonist of initiatives aimed at spreading and expanding knowledge about contemporary art.
