Dopo il successo delle prime tappe allo Château de Tours, al festival Les Rencontres d’Arles e, più recentemente, al Museo Civico San Domenico di Forlì, nell’autunno 2026, approda a CAMERA Torino la grande mostra dedicata a Letizia Battaglia.
L’esposizione, a cura di Walter Guadagnini, esplora la vita e l’opera della grande fotografa siciliana, restituendo la ricchezza e la diversità della sua espressione artistica e il suo costante impegno sociale e civile. Un viaggio intenso attraverso oltre 200 immagini, tra cui le celebri fotografie sui tragici eventi di mafia, nelle quali la cronaca si intreccia alla denuncia in una coraggiosa interpretazione del lavoro di fotoreporter.
Coprodotta da CAMERA Torino e da Jeu de Paume, in collaborazione con l’Archivio Letizia Battaglia, la mostra evidenzia anche il desiderio della fotografa di raccontare l’anima della sua terra, Palermo e la Sicilia, restituendone insieme luci e ombre: le difficoltà quotidiane e la dignità delle persone, l’amore e la gioia, la bellezza nei giovani volti, la dimensione rituale e identitaria delle feste religiose, fino alle toccanti realtà di vita in un ospedale psichiatrico.
Completano il percorso espositivo anche 22 riviste con cui la fotografa ha collaborato e di cui, in alcuni casi, è stata anche fondatrice ed editrice, oltre a un docufilm sulla sua vita.
Following the success of its first stops at the Château de Tours, the Les Rencontres d’Arles festival, and, more recently, the Museo Civico San Domenico in Forlì, the major exhibition dedicated to Letizia Battaglia arrives at CAMERA Torino in the fall of 2026.
Curated by Walter Guadagnini, the exhibition explores the life and work of the great Sicilian photographer, showcasing the richness and diversity of her artistic expression and her constant social and civic commitment. It is an intense journey through more than 200 images, including her famous photographs of tragic mafia events, in which news reporting is intertwined with denunciation in a courageous interpretation of the work of a photojournalist.
Co-produced by CAMERA Torino and Jeu de Paume, in collaboration with the Letizia Battaglia Archive, the exhibition also highlights the photographer’s desire to capture the soul of her homeland, Palermo and Sicily, conveying both its light and shade: the daily difficulties and dignity of the people, love and joy, the beauty of young faces, the ritual and identity dimension of religious festivals, and the touching realities of life in a psychiatric hospital.
The exhibition also includes 22 magazines with which the photographer collaborated and, in some cases, was also the founder and editor, as well as a documentary film about her life.
